Philip Augustine, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, 89 of Mt. Carmel passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 27th, 2025.

He was born in Shamokin on October 29, 1935, son of the late Albert V. and Marcella (Bradley) Augustine.

Philip was a 1953 graduate of the former Coal Township High School.

He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany from 1958 until 1961 and served in the Army reserves until 1964.

He was a proud graduate of Williamsport Area Community College. He also obtained his real estate license.

Philip had many jobs working for Northumberland County. He was also a trades instructor at State Correctional Facility SCI Camp Hill and a grounds keeper at the Pennsylvania State Police Academy.

Philip was married on July 5, 1958 in the former Holy Cross Church in Mt. Carmel to Patricia (Yuskoski) Augustine who preceded him in death on May 18, 2025.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish.

Philip will be remembered as a man of faith, his sense of humor and his gift for telling stories.

He loved the outdoors. He was a founding member of the Spirit of ’76 hunting camp in Potter County, a Midget Football coach for the former Holy Spirit School, his love of carpentry and tinkering in his garage. Philip was well known for his deer jerky and made the best pot pie noodles ever.

Surviving are one son, David Augustine and his wife Marie of Den-Mar Gardens and their children Kaila Roy and her husband Michael and Justin Augustine and his wife Haley; daughter, Kathy Castellano and her husband Edward of Pottsville and their children Katie Castellano and Kyle Castellano; daughter-in-law, Ann Marie Augustine of Shamokin wife of the late Jeffrey Augustine and their children Heather Augustine and her significant other Chris Jones and Celeste Dutko and her husband Michael; great-grandchildren, Nadia, Aly, Ashyr, Maddex, Kinslee and Macklin; one sister Marcy Reidinger his last surviving sibling; three sisters-in-law, Loretta Fantanarosa, Kathy Golden and her husband Jim, Janet Yuskoski; numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffry Augustine; sisters, Elizabeth, Louise and Patricia; and brothers, Albert and William.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with Very Rev. Msgr. Francis J. Karwacki as the celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Mt. Carmel Township. A visitation will held on Thursday from 9:00 am until 10:45 am at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 South Market Street, Mt. Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz III, Supervisor. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 47 South Market Street, Mt. Carmel, PA 17851 or your favorite charity. To offer a condolence to Philip’s family, please sign the guestbook below.
