Philip P. Brankin

Philip P. Brankin, age 71, of Villa Park, IL.

Phil was the beloved husband of Carol Brankin, nee Pearsall; loving father of Catherine Brankin, Amy (Peter) Hendricks, Philip E. (John) Brankin, and Thomas (Brianna) Brankin; cherished grandfather of Greyson and Isla Hendricks; dear brother of Kevin (Barbara) Brankin, Brian (Patty) Brankin, and the late Sean Brankin; he will be greatly missed by his Schnoodle Elvis, and his grand-dogs, Kenai, Rigby, Mystic, Yosemite, and Barney.

Phil's greatest joy was his family. He was their unwavering pillar of unconditional support and encouragement, never missing a milestone, whether it be a graduation, performance, game, or recital. Through countless hours in auditoriums for band, theatre, choir, and show choir, on the sidelines for soccer, baseball, basketball, and tennis, and in the bleachers for marching band, his proud and encouraging presence was constant. He celebrated every solo, every point, and every curtain call. A master of creating and planning traditions, Phil always made sure to pick out a new destination to ski every year as a shared family gathering, creating cherished memories on mountains from Alaska to France.

Phil was a quietly brilliant individual, a computer programmer with an analytical and encyclopedic mind. As a born and bred Irish Southsider, he was curiously a lifelong Cubs fan, following his beloved team through thick and thin. He shared this love of the Cubs with his brother Sean, from whom he learned patience and care for the special needs community.

Late in life, he set a goal to see every state and national park with his wife, Carol, with a final score of 50/50 and 39/63. If you saw him out and about he was either walking a dog or riding his motorcycle into the wind, with no particular destination in mind-a free spirit who found peace in the journey itself.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 23rd 2025, at First United Methodist Church of Lombard, 155 S. Main St. Memorial Gathering from 10:00 AM until time of Service at 11:00 AM.
