Philip Osborne Brown, a beloved father, pawpaw, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 3, 2025, at the age of 74, in Arlington Heights, Illinois. He was born on March 18, 1951, in Florence, Alabama, to Sarah Helen Gray and James Brown. Philip's life was a testament to the beauty of family, the joys of friendship, and the love for nature. He grew up in a loving family and was always known for his infectious laughter and silly sense of humor. His joyful spirit endeared him to everyone he met, and he had a remarkable ability to bring light into any room. His family fondly recalls his readiness to lend a helping hand, reflecting a true dedication to those he loved.

Philip was preceded in death by his dear brother, David Brown. He is survived by his two cherished daughters, Ashley Souza (married to Michael) and Sarah Cole (married to AJ), who carry on his legacy of kindness, laughter, and silliness. He proudly leaves behind a grandson, Landon Brown, whose bright spirit brought immense joy to Philip's later years, and a dear sister, Judith Johnson, who shared countless memories with him throughout their lives.

Philip's passion for the environment led him to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Forestry from Auburn University. This education laid the foundation for a fulfilling career that culminated in a distinguished retirement from NASA. His professional journey was marked by a passion for science and dedication to helping others, traits that earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

A man of many hobbies and interests, Philip found joy in fishing, camping, skiing and scuba diving, often sharing these experiences with family and friends. His love for Auburn football was unwavering, and he spent countless weekends cheering on his team with family and friends. His love for nature was matched only by his joyful spirit; he was always laughing, always doing something silly, always ready to help anyone in need. Philip's voice was often heard singing, a reflection of his zest for life and his ability to find joy in the simplest moments.

Philip's kind-hearted nature and unwavering support for those around him left a permanent mark on the lives he touched. His laughter was infectious, and his ability to uplift others brought comfort and warmth even in the toughest of times.

He had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel valued and loved, showcasing the true essence of what it means to be a friend and a family member.

Philip's legacy extends beyond his family and friends. In honor of his love for nature and wildlife, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Alabama Wildlife Federation and National Fish and Wildlife Federation, allowing Philip's spirit to continue to support the beauty of the great outdoors he cherished so deeply.

A private service will be held at a later date to celebrate the life of this remarkable man. Philip Brown will be remembered for his laughter, his unwavering support for those around him, and his deep appreciation for the natural world. He touched the lives of many, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. As we say goodbye to Philip, let us carry forward his legacy of laughter, love, and the importance of being there for one another. May he rest in peace, knowing he will forever be in our hearts.
