Philip Cordaro Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc. on May 9, 2024.
If you were looking for the finest in continental cuisine, delicious homemade carrot cake, or the philosophies of life, Phil Cordaro was who you went to see. He observed, cajoled, loved, cooked, and served all those who visited his restaurant and people who were in need in the community. Many times walking into the restaurant you would hear Phil's favorite music playing, such as "My Way" by Frank Sintatra or "It's A Wonderful World" by Louie Armstrong.
Philip P. Cordaro passed away at home surrounded by family on May 8, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 68 years old. He was born July 16,1955 to Charlmaine and the late Philip Cordaro of Honesdale. He was also preceded in death by his mother in law, Carrie VanOrden. He is survived by his wife Patsy of 34 years and their children, Jennifer and husband Pete Suhosky, Philip Cordaro and wife Sarah, Michelle and husband Matt Rickard, Anna and husband Bruce Avery, and Carley Cordaro. Also his siblings, Jamie Cordaro and wife Leslie, Rosina Cordaro, and Joseph Cordaro and wife Kelly. He was known as "Nunu" by his 14 grandchildren: Abigail, Michael, Isabel, Luca, Aida, Antonio, Abraham, Vera, Bella, Rana, Thea, Mason, Wyatt, and Landen.
Phil had the restaurant business in his blood. He started working at his parent's restaurant (Cordaro's) when he was nine years old. He was a standout wrestler and running back for the Honesdale High School Hornets. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America (aka CIA), he became the chef for Cordaro's Restaurant, then Sibio's Restaurant in Scranton, and the Fairway Restaurant in Honesdale. In 1993, Phil and his wife Patsy opened Three Wishes Restaurant in Beach Lake, Pa. They happily served, "The Finest in Continental Cuisine" for 31 years with homemade sauces and recipes.
Phil's passion in life was to bring people together over a meal. He also enjoyed golfing, story telling, and spending time with his family. He was known for his "Phil"osophies and loved giving and helping others in the community. His grandchildren loved spending time with him and listening to his stories of wrestling, football, and childhood shenanigans with his friends and siblings.
A Catholic Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. at St. John's Evangelist Church on Terrace Street in Honesdale. A burial service will be held immediately following the Mass at St. Mary's cemetery in Honesdale. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life luncheon at Cordaro's Restaurant.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the St. Vincent DePaul Outreach Food Pantry in Honesdale to continue Phil's legacy of always making sure that everyone has something to eat. Phil was a wonderful man and will be missed. I first met him and the family in the spring of 1982. He promptly let me work a bit in the kitchen at Cordaro's when he learned it was a passion of mine. We spent time at his home as well. Phil was a wonderful friend and will be fondly remembered.

Our heartfelt sympathy to Phil's entire family. He was a likable guy who will certainly leave a void in the culinary world and beyond. May he now rest in peace.
