Obituary of Philip Charles Dauria Sr.
Philip Charles Dauria Sr., affectionately known as "Big D" or "Poppy," passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, at Abington Jefferson Hospital in
Abington, Pennsylvania, surrounded by his loving family. He was 78 years old.
Born on May 9, 1947, in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Philip was the beloved son of Philip and Mary Terrizzi Dauria. He grew up in Philadelphia and went on to lead a life marked by dedication to his family, community, and country. Philip proudly served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 during the Vietnam War.
Philip married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth String Dauria, and together they shared an extraordinary bond for 59 years. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership. They built a beautiful family that brought him immense pride and joy.
Philip dedicated over three decades of his career to SEPTA as a Service Supervisor and also served as a business agent for Local 234. His commitment to public service extended beyond his professional life; he served as a Darby Police Officer and volunteered as a firefighter with the Darby Fire Department. His contributions to his community were numerous and deeply valued.
An avid sports enthusiast, Philip's passion for athletics was evident both as a fan and a coach. He was a devoted supporter of all Philadelphia sports teams but found his greatest joy cheering on his grandchildren from the sidelines. His booming voice could fill any room or stadium with encouragement and pride. Philip also left an indelible mark as a CYO football coach for Blessed Virgin Mary School, where he led his team to the All-Catholic Championship game-a feat still fondly remembered by his players today.
Philip was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as a 4th Degree Knight. Beyond his many roles and accomplishments, he cherished moments spent with those he loved most. Whether hosting impromptu barbecues, enjoying Sunday brunches or dinners, attending neighborhood gatherings, or simply sharing stories about his cherished family, Philip's warmth and love brought people together.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Elizabeth String Dauria; their three children: Christina (Joseph) Dunn, Philip (Kathy) Dauria Jr., and Monique (Philipp) LaGrossa; ten grandchildren: Victoria, Christiana, Alexandra, Alyssa, Philipp, Nicholas, Daire, Christian, Ryan, and Auggie; and two great-grandchildren: Bella and Jaxon. He is also survived by Uncle John and Aunt Georgina Terrizzi as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who considered him family. Although an only child by birth, Philip was regarded as a brother by many who were fortunate enough to know him.
The measure of a life is in the love left behind-and Philip's love was abundant.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 430 Valleybrook Rd.,
