Dr. Philip Larko Lartey, born on August 18, 1967, in Accra, Ghana, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2024, in Hendersonville, NC, after a long battle with cancer. He was 57 years old.
Dr. Lartey was a distinguished psychiatrist who dedicated his life to the service of others. He completed his early education at Wesley Grammar Senior High School and graduated with distinction from Adisadel College in Accra, Ghana. He pursued his medical degree at the prestigious Russia State Medical School, graduating with the Class of 1995. His medical journey continued in the United States, where he completed his residency and fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, serving as the chief resident from 2000 to 2004.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Lartey was associated with Advent Health Hospital, where he made significant contributions to the field of psychiatry and neurology. He was a respected member of the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Lartey was deeply committed to philanthropy. He supported local schools, the Manna Food Bank, the Advent Health Foundation, and St. Jude Children's Hospital. He also sponsored a library at his elementary school in Ghana, ensuring that future generations would have access to educational resources. Dr. Lartey was an avid fan of Chelsea Football Club and had a keen interest in architectural and interior design.
Dr. Lartey is preceded in death by his father, The Late Mr. Emmanuel Nii Larkai Lartey; his mother, The Late Christiana Naa Tsitse Lartey; and his sister, The Late Olivia Lartey.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kudzai Mabunda-Lartey; his daughters, Tawanda Mararike of Durham, NC, and Portia Lartey of Raleigh, NC, who is studying biology; his sons, Philip Lartey Jr. of London, UK, and Rupert Lartey of Charlotte, NC, who is studying mechanical engineering. He is also survived by his sister, Mrs. Gloria Botchway of Accra, Ghana; his brothers, Dr. Emmanuel Lartey of Tema, Ghana, Mr. Marampa Lartey of London, UK, and Mr. Frederick Lartey of Accra, Ghana. Additionally, he leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends from all over the world who will dearly miss him.
Dr. Lartey resided in various places throughout his life, including Accra, Ghana; Moscow, Russia; Worcester, MA; Philadelphia, PA; Cleveland, OH; and Hendersonville, NC.
A funeral service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church on October 12, 2024. Visitation will take place from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Burial will be at Shepherd Memorial Park. The service will be officiated by Apostle Bevan Mutata and Dr. Emmanuel Lartey.

Dr. Lartay was my doctor for many years. He was a wonderful person. He always took time to listen and guide with kindness and care. I will miss him. Prayers for all the family

Dr, Larty was an exceptional human being. A man who should have cloned. His compassion, kindness and caring will never be forgotten.
I had the pleasure of his guidance for 12 years and will miss this extraordinary man.
I´m blessed to have had him in my life.
My prayers are extended to his wonderful family. May they find peace as I know we would have wanted for them.
