Philip Light Obituary Philip Richard Light, 72, of Rowley MA, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday October 31, 2023, with his loved ones by his side. Philip 'Phil' was born on March 5, 1951, at Melrose, MA, to the late John Light 2nd and Lucille (Brown) Light. He spent his younger years in Reading and North Reading and moved to Rowley in 1977 after purchasing his grandmother's home.
Phil graduated from Reading Memorial High School in 1969 and obtained an Associates Degree from North Shore Community College. He served in the US Navy and Navy Reserve as a young man. He was stationed in the Great Lakes, Chicago, IL. He worked for the New England Telephone Company which later became known as Verizon and retired after 30 plus years.
Phil took great pride in his home and loved working in his garden. He and his daughter Kristin would make it a Fathers Day Tradition to shop for and plant for the season. These last years Susan joined in the planting and care. Phil loved the help from those he cherished and looked forward to every seasonal change. You would often see Phil outside happily taking care of his flowers or simply taking in the sunshine and life itself from his chair. He loved living in the center of town and having his friends stop by for a coffee on his beloved porch. He was a long time friend of Bill W and touched the hearts of many with his experience and stories. His intention was to spread loving kindness to everyone he met.
Phil also enjoyed his familys summer home on Treadwell Island, Ipswich and was blessed with lifelong friendships starting from his early days in and out of the water, at the sandbar and chicken house and in various tree houses and boats. He loved getting up early in the morning and blasting over to Rockport in his pajamas. He was always happy boating with his family and friends and going fishing around the area. He loved family vacations. Whenever you asked Phil how he was doing, he would respond with "Perfect" and he meant it. He always ended greeting cards and text messages with "Love and Blessings". Phill loved life and appreciated every day.
Phil was predeceased by his sister, Ruth-Anne Barton of Ipswich. He is survived by his daughter Kristin Light Brown and her husband Sean Brown of Hampstead, NH, his cherished granddaughter Jada Lucille Brown, his twin sister Barbara Light Marcorelle and husband Dana Marcorelle of Hamilton, his brother Peter J Light and wife Jennifer Clark Light of Bolton, niece and nephews Doug, Will, Patrick, Adam, Giles, Jack and Sarah, and his long-time partner Susan Dunkerley and her daughters Michelle Brigida and Sheila Dunkerley and Susans grandchildren Maya, Lucy and Andy.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass on Friday, November 10, 2023, 11 a.m., at Saint Mary Parish, Main Street, Rowley.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Spastic Parapelegia Foundation.
