Philip Eugene Mattoon

May 15, 1945 – March 6, 2026

Philip Eugene Mattoon, 80, of Woodland, WA, passed away on March 6, 2026, after a short battle with lung cancer.

Phil was born on May 15, 1945, in Renwick, Iowa, to Leroy and Viola Mattoon. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1963 and attended the University of Iowa for a year before beginning his next chapter in the U.S. Army. A proud veteran of the Vietnam War, Phil was a man of steady character. He worked in construction, to include traveling overseas to build custom homes. Phil loved watching sports and was always up for a good game of cribbage.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Viola, and his loving wife, Barbara Mattoon.

He is survived by his four daughters, Amanda Lefever of Woodland, Washington, Victoria McCarty of Longview, Washington, Teresa Shannon of Spokane Valley, Washington, and Christy Cooke of Avilla, Indiana; his 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Donald Mattoon of Molalla, Oregon, and Richard Mattoon of Ankeny, Iowa.

Services are currently pending and will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Phil's honor to the American Cancer Society.
