Philip “Dagwood” McClellan, 88, of Folly Beach, SC, died peacefully on March 10, 2026. 

Born December 16, 1937, he was the son of the late Edward Palmer McClellan and Helen Creech McClellan.

Philip graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in civil engineering. He built a life defined by steady work and service to others, becoming a residential home builder and later a real estate broker. Philip was an avid reader and he loved walking the beach and gathering seashells.  He proudly worked with youth in sports and was a member of the Optimist Club of James Island.

Survivors include his wife, Jean P. McClellan; three sons, Jay McClellan (Caroline), Andy McClellan (Tara), and Chris McClellan; three daughters, Debbie Ayers, Phyllis McClellan, and Tammy Walling (Chris); his sister, Angie Youngblood (Bill); his brother-in-law, Gary Price (Loretta); 18 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his sister, Ida Fanning, and his eldest daughter, Cindy Cline.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026  from 5:00PM-7:00PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation ~ James Island, 347 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412, (843) 614-8494.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, March 16, 2026 at Folly Beach Baptist Church, 77 Center Street, Folly Beach, SC 29439.

Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston, SC 29412.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Philip's honor to your favorite charity.
