Philip "Fivel" Myzel

Philip 'Fivel' Myzel, 95, of Duluth, died Saturday, April 05, 2008 at Lakeshore. He was born April 12, 1912 in Vilna, Poland to Louis and Anna (Levine) Myzel. Philip arrived from Poland July 4, 1919. He graduated from Central High School and became a self made man. He married Pearl Myzal from Gloversville, N.Y. Philip owned and operated the Woodland Grocery Store. He then worked and retired from advertising after many years. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Duluth, Aad Shrine and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was very active in his beloved Temple Israel. He was the shofer blower for the high holidays for over 53 years between the Temple Emanuel Synagogue and the Temple Israel Synagogue. He was a life member of B'nai Brith. He was a proud member of the Duluth National Guard during World War II. He authored a book based on his life called 'Bridge to America.' He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl in 2002; parents; brother, Ben; and sisters, Eva, Ruth and Helen. Philip is survived by his daughters, Leslie (Ansel) Gardner of Minneapolis, Minn. and Linda (Barry) Radin of St. Cloud, Minn.; three grandchildren, Joel Radin, Mitchell (Hillary) Radin and Denise (Bill Carlson) Gardner. FUNERAL SERVICE:110 a.m. Tuesday at Dougherty Funeral Home. Interment in Temple Emanuel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Temple Israel.
