Philip Newman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Palm Royale Funeral Home & Cemetery on Dec. 8, 2025.
Philip Gerald Newman suddenly passed away on Thursday afternoon, December 4, 2025. He was born August 21, 1968, to the late Marian and Gerald Newman in Shrigley, Northern Ireland.
Phil, as he preferred to be called, is loved by many in the United States and back home in the United Kingdom and Ireland. His loved ones were deeply saddened and shocked to hear of his sudden passing. He is survived by his daughter, Rachel, and wife, Tammy Tassitano, along with many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
After growing up in Shrigley, Phil attended the University of Birmingham for his Bachelor of Commerce in accounting. He graduated in 1990, starting his thirty-five-year career working for PKF in September of that year. While he moved back and forth between the U.S. and Ireland for several years, he permanently moved to Florida in 2006 to work for RSM (formerly McGladrey). After living in Fort Lauderdale for a few years, he returned to Naples in 2014. Phil was planning to retire this coming April and move to Nashville with Tammy. He specialized in audit and focused on hospitality, including clubs, hotels, and resorts. Phil was a CPA in Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia.
On December 30, 2008, Phil and Tammy were married in Las Vegas. They would have been married for seventeen years this month. Phil was a devoted husband to Tammy, and they had many adventures across the globe together. Together they adopted a cat, Frankie, in 2014. She survives. Nashville was Phil and Tammy's favorite place to visit together.
Phil was loved by all who knew him. He was a caring husband, loving father, and a loyal friend. A devoted fan of Liverpool, Phil's loved ones are happy that he witnessed the success of their last season before passing. Phil loved history, reading, country music, rubber ducks, and "The Rest is History" podcast, which he incessantly sent his daughter links to. He enjoyed travelling and had the chance to see much of the U.S. through work, as well as visited several countries for pleasure: Canada, Iceland, Italy, Mexico, Greece, and Spain. Phil was a huge fan of Bruce Springsteen as well and saw him too many times to count in concert. Known by many for his humor, Phil will be missed not only by his family and friends, but also by his colleagues, employees, and clients.
His memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Royal Poinciana Golf Club in Naples, Florida, followed by a reception. He will be cremated prior to the service. Another celebration of life is to follow in Ireland in the coming months. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to the RSM Foundation @ https://rsm.yourcause.com/public#/fundraising/33511 in Phil's name.
The family looks forward to returning Phil's spirit to Ireland, which has always been his home no matter how far away he is or how many years have passed. He will be welcomed with open arms by his parents.

Personally, I'm shocked that the universe has now become deprived of such a bright ray of positivity and humility and laughter and compassion and brogue! I met Phil, long ago with Martha and Lee Laramore, with my husband at an HFTP conference - we collaborated, we laughed, we engaged and the connection never broke. Tammy, I'm so sorry for your loss of Phil and for all of us. Anytime I sought his advice - he didn't miss a beat. What an impression he made on all of us. God bless and thoughts with you and all of us he left behind. Sincerely, Elaine - CFO at Belleair Country Club.

Phil was such a dynamic man, his presence at any club or convention conference lit up a room, he was a joy to see. He had a smile, a hug and a handshake for anyone who entered the room.He will be missed terribly. My prayers to his family and Tammy.

Our hearts are broken. Phil brings light to every room and lands a smile on every face.

Wind at your back, sun upon your face, rain upon your fields... and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
