Philip J. Recker, 81, of Dyersville, Iowa passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at home surrounded by loved ones in Dyersville, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025, at Kramer-Morris Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, Iowa, with burial following in the church cemetery where military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post #137. Rev. David Schatz will officiate.
Philip was born on January 8, 1944, in Dyersville, IA, son of John and Marcella (Conrad) Recker. He worked on the family farm until he enrolled in the Army Reserves. He married Virginia Leifker on June 29, 1968, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in East Dubuque, IL. Together, they farmed near Dyersville for several years while raising their six children. He was an avid farmer of dairy and hogs until retiring.
Phil enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and spending time with his family and friends. He was very proud of all his family. Phil will be missed for his smile and good conversation.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Virginia; children: Molly (Jeff) Juergens of Manchester, Sally (Bill) Schumann of Garber, Kathy (Bret) Platten of Marion, Andrew (Vicki) Recker of Dyersville, Keith Recker of Dyersville, Judy (Ted) Jackson of Dyersville; grandchildren: Jaclyn (Justin) Felver, Nick (Maddy) Juergens, John Juergens, Brian (Melissa) Schumann, Bradley (Katie) Schumann, Rebecca Schumann, Brandon Schumann, Amanda Platten, Crystal Platten, Madeline Recker, Josephine (Avery) Tauke, Isabella Recker, Vincent Recker, Auden Recker, Kennedy Recker, Marshall Recker, Taylor (Jack) Jackson, Caden (Hannah) Jackson, Maddix Jackson, Lilly Waterman, Brooks Waterman; four great-grandchildren with one on the way; siblings: Lois Taylor, Alice (Ron) Gudenkauf, Grace (Paul) Rahe, Joe Recker; in-laws: Betty Recker, Jerry (Carol) Leifker, Darlene Mickelson, Dorothy (Elmer) Feldmann, Ronnie (Kate) Leifker, LaVonne (Tom) Wilgenbush, and Tom (Cindy) Leifker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Marion Krogmann, Eugene Recker; in-laws: Donald Mickelson, Jim Krogman, Charlie Taylor, and Dr. Jim White.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorials are preferred as the family has established a memorial fund.
