Philip J. Rock, 79, formerly of Rutland, MA and Lake Placid, FL, died peacefully in his home on October 4th surrounded by his loving wife and sons, after battling chronic health conditions for many years. He was a devoted father, and the loving husband of Marsha A. (Roy) Rock, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.
Philip was born on April 8th, 1944 to parents Priscilla and Ernest Rock in Worcester, MA. Philip graduated from Leicester High School in 1961, and later Fitchburg State College in Computer Science. He was enlisted in the United States Air Force for four years, serving stateside and in Bermuda.
After the Air Force he started his 35-year career at New England Telephone and Verizon. Philip started his career as a toll-tester and culminated his career being responsible for the Worcester 'cut-over,' switching the entire city over from analog to digital phone service.
Philip had a love for soccer that he shared with his sons and grandchildren. He enjoyed his retirement by touring the United States in his RV with his wife. They eventually settled in central Florida, where they enjoyed many years of the warmth and sunshine.
Philip is survived by his wife, his children Joseph E. Rock and his wife Terri of Littleton, Steven P. Rock of Salem, and his daughter Michelle R. Rock of Boston, and five grandchildren, Lexi, and Kenzie of Littleton and Alli, Zach and Jake of Middleton. He also leaves behind a brother, John Rock, and his wife Gail of Greencastle, PA, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, from 12 - 4 pm at the Congregational Church of Littleton, 330 King Street, Littleton, MA 01460.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Heartland Cat Rescue, 2109 Flower Terrace, Sebring, FL 33875.
