Philip Stockman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lord Funeral Home - Center Ossipee on Mar. 30, 2026.
Philip A. Stockman, 99, of Tuftonboro, NH, passed away peacefully at home on March 23, 2026. Born in Newton Upper Falls, MA, to Doris and Frank Stockman.

Phil attended Newton public schools before moving full-time at the age of 12 to Tuftonboro, where he attended Brewster Free Academy. During this time, he worked alongside his parents and brother to develop what would become his most cherished place, Canaan Valley; a special piece of land he helped shape for generations to follow. Canaan Valley remained the place closest to Phil's heart, and he took great pride in building and caring for the land over the years.

Phil proudly served his country as a Rifleman Sergeant in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Hawaii. He was a man of many talents. Over the years, he filled a vacancy as a Tuftonboro Police Officer and sold eggs to local grocery stores. However, what meant the most to him was his work as a skilled carpenter and woodworker, a craft he practiced with great pride and talent throughout his life. Phil loved the outdoors and spent many hours mowing, hunting, fishing, hiking, feeding the valley's critters, and adventuring in his side-by-side in the more recent years.

He will forever be remembered for his quick wit, board game skills, strong work ethic, and deep love for animals. His dogs were his constant companions throughout the years.

Phil was predeceased by his parents, Doris and Frank Stockman; his sisters, Janet and Evelyn; his brother, Frank; his former wife and mother to four of his children, Jean Peasley; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and grandparents. He leaves behind his children: Mary Ann Stockman, Gary Stockman, James Stockman (Patricia), Brian Stockman (Marybeth), and Amy Stockman. He is also survived by his former wife, Nancy Wilson, and his grandchildren Rebecca and Scott Urquhart, Payde Stockman, Ali Dumont (Shawn), Sara Grasse-Crabtree, Mickayla Grasse-Stockman, Natalie (Benjamin Davis) and Ace Holmberg, and their father Jerry Holmberg, along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

We would like to sincerely thank the staff of Curtis Quality Care, Conway VA, and Quality Care for their dedication and compassionate care towards Phil.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Phil's memory may be made to the Lakes Region Humane Society.

A celebration of Phil's life will be held at a later date.
