Philip C. Stratton, age 83, passed away into the hands of God on December 10, 2021 at his home in Hamden. He was born in Aughnasheelin, Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim, Ireland on January 20, 1938. Philip is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ann (Walsh) Stratton. He is also survived by his loving children: Stephen and Kim Stratton, Allison and Eric Peterson, Jennifer Stratton, and Shannon and Rob Martinez. Phil adored his grandchildren: Jennifer, Christopher, Nicholas, Owen, Avery, Brianna, Eli, and Norah. Phil was the son of (Patrick) Joe and Celia (Gormley) Stratton of Ballinamore, Leitrim. Phil also cherished his siblings. In addition to his parents, Phil was predeceased by his siblings: Maura and Jim McGuinness, Joseph Stratton, Anne Beirne, and Oliver and Bridie Stratton, nephew Joseph and grandnephew Michael Torello. He is survived by his siblings: John and Eileen Stratton, Patrick and Bridie Stratton, Anthony and Eileen Stratton, Philomena and Chris Dolan, Francis and Mary Stratton, Gerald and Nancy Stratton, Thomas and Helen Stretton, and Kathleen Stretton. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. Phil was a proud and dedicated New Haven Firefighter for 31 years. He also served as a New Haven Marshall for two decades. He was an active member and two-time Past President of the Irish American Community Center/New Haven Gaelic Football & Hurling Club. Phil was named the 2005 NHGF&HC Irishman of the Year. Phil's passion was playing Irish music on the fiddle. He loved to socialize and never missed an opportunity to tell friends (or new friends) a story or two over a beer. He never realized how funny he was, but his stories will live on. He valued his family and friendships above all. He made it a top priority to visit and check in on anyone he cared about. As a devoted member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, his faith was unwavering, but he was never one to preach to others. As an Irish immigrant, he worked hard to create the American Dream for his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Friends are asked to go directly to church. Burial in All Saints Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. in Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Masks will be required at both the church and funeral home.
