Philip Trau Obituary
Philip Edward Trau, 87, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024 at his home at Storypoint in Collierville, Tennessee, after a brief illness. Phil was born December 25, 1936 in San Francisco, California to Edward F. Trau and Elise Trau (Guizot) and grew up in San Francisco and Stockton, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Martha (2023).
Phil is survived by his son from his first marriage (Aurora), Edward Trau of Fajardo, PR; stepson, Bob Hoyle (Lisa) of Collierville, TN; and grandson, Sam Hoyle, also of Collierville, TN.
Phil was an Electronics Technician with the United States Navy serving on three ships: USS Philippine Sea (CVS-47), USS Newport News (CA-148) and the USS Eaton (DD-510). After an honorable discharge after thirteen plus years of service, he joined the FAA in the same capacity and retired in 1994 with almost forty years of government service. While with the FAA, he lived in Puerto Rico, Alaska, and Tennessee, where he met Martha, then residing in Hawaii and Florida, as well. In retirement, Phil and Martha lived in Crestview for many years, then moved to Collierville, TN in 2014 for health reasons and to be near family that could aid in their care.
Over the years, Phil and Martha completed many trips planned by Martha, organizer extraordinaire, seeing a large part of the world. One that stands out is the trip into Eastern Europe just after the Berlin Wall came down. Another remembrance of Phil is, with his height, he would hold a camera up high and capture scenes from a unique perspective.
Phil will be dearly missed by all the lives he touched over the years. He will be especially missed by his grandson, Sam, who had a very special relationship with him.
A graveside service will be held at Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery, 112 North Avenue East, Crestview, Florida 32536 on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
Arrangements and services are under the direction of Davis-Watkins Crestview Memorial.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Birmingham Southern College at https://www.bsc.edu or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at
