Phillip Blackmon

It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phillip Blackmon. Phillip spent his final days just as he spent much of the preceding time: on his own terms, with great courage, and in the comfort of loved ones. He leaves a legacy of hard work, family, and unwavering principles.

Born on June 12, 1954 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Phillip was just 3 when the Blackmon family moved to Charleston, South Carolina and quickly made it home. The adventures of his child and young adulthood span from the Ashley River to Folly Beach with cherished times also being spent with family in the rural upstate.

Most of Phillip's career was spent alongside his father, Ned Blackmon, as the 2 managed and grew their warehousing business. There Phillip was an expert at organizing and loading much of the freight imported and exported through the city. His confidence reflected his diligent work ethic: a commitment to consistency and integrity throughout the shipping and trucking industries.

Of all his accomplishments, the role for which he was the proudest was being a father. He coached his children when they were young, not just to teach the game but to illustrate the importance of discipline, resilience, and character. His influence extends far beyond the courts and ball fields.

Through his career and into retirement, Phillip enjoyed the camaraderie of friends-often positioned across a pool table, chess board, or lively table of conversation. He believed Saturdays in the fall were reserved for football and old westerns in which justice prevailed deserved to be watched repeatedly.

Phillip is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Brett Beckman, his brother, David, his son, Michael, his daughter, Lindsey (Ashley), and 3 grandchildren whom he adored.
