Let Us Pause... To Honor the Memory of Mr. Phillip Layman "Phil" Cloat
Mr. Phillip Layman "Phil" Cloat, age 76, of Moorefield, Indiana, entered this life on September 9, 1949 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the son of the late Layman and Carolena N. (Hart) Cloat. He was raised in Moorefield, Indiana and was a 1967 graduate of Switzerland County High School. Phil was united in marriage to Paula Rae Sloan on August 28, 1982 in Switzerland County, Indiana. This happy blended family shared over 43 years of marriage together until his passing. Phil was formerly employed for Reliance Electric for 12 years and for Gallatin Steel. He was also a former truck driver and a former reserve officer and jail commander for the Switzerland County Sheriff's Department, from 1999-2002. Phil owned and operated T & T Custom Sawing on Vernon Ridge in Switzerland County, Indiana. He was a member of the Sons of the Vevay VFW Post #5396, Moorefield Volunteer Fire Department and the Switzerland County Sportsman Club. Phil enjoyed building, spending time with his family, camping, woodworking, guns, and listening to music. He also loved motorcycles and enjoyed life to the fullest. Phil passed away at 7:45 p.m., Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at the Norton King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana.
Phil will be deeply missed by his wife, Paula Rae (Sloan) Cloat of Moorefield, IN; his daughter, Marylee "Shamaine" Griffin of Madison, IN; his sons, Rick Cloat and his wife, Samantha Cloat of Joliet, IL; his grandchildren, Haley, Megan, Nathan, Tyrus, and Alexander; and his great-grandchildren, Danny, Vivian and Madison. He was preceded in death by his father, Layman Cloat, died July 19, 1986; his mother, Carolena N. (Hart) Cloat, died July 22, 2010; his daughter, Phyllisa C. "Lisa" (Cloat) Pedigo, died October 11, 2003; his step-son, Paul Randall "Randy" Hise, died January 28, 2004; his infant brother, Richard Hart Cloat; and his son-in-law, Robert Wayne Griffin, died September 5, 2000.
Phil's wishes were to be cremated with no formal service at this time.
