Phillip Lamar Hoover

Phillip Lamar Hoover, age 69, of Syracuse, Indiana, passed away on December 1, 2025.

He was born September 16, 1956, in Goshen to Nelson and Lois Joan (Whetten) Hoover. Born and raised in Syracuse, Phil spent his entire life in the community he loved.

Phil was previously married to Karen Sue Hoover, mother of his children, Christy Garcia and Kevin Hoover. Phil spent his later years with his loving partner, Marsha Worrell, who remained by his side and shared deeply in his life.

He is survived by his children and Marsha’s children Josh and Jessica Worrell; grandchildren Victor S. Garcia III, Sierra Davis, Kionna Hoover, and Kabella Hoover; and by three great grandchildren, Cadynn Davis, Blakely Davis, and Dekken DeMeritt; and four siblings, Diann (Bill) Dunlap of Goshen, Luann (Andrew) Roose of St. Cloud, Florida, Richard (Sandra) Hoover of Middlebury, and Donald (Sherry) Hoover of New Paris. He was preceded in death by his brothers Terry Hoover, David Hoover, and Dean Hoover.

Phil worked 47 years at Smoker Craft and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, grilling and cheering on the Chicago Bears. He will be remembered as a kind, humble and selfless man.

Phil’s life was defined by kindness, generosity and quiet strength. He loved his family, his pets, and the simple joys of life. Though we mourn his passing, we celebrate a life well-lived and the love he shared with all who knew him. Phil’s warmth, humility and selflessness will forever remain in our hearts.

Visitation will be held Saturday December 6, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home followed by a 2:30 p.m. funeral service.
