Phillip C. Krepps, 100 years of age, peacefully passed away on July 23, 2022 at home.
Phillip was born on March 30, 1922 in North Belle Vernon, Pa., son of the late Lewis and Sidney
Krepps.
He is predeceased by his siblings Betty Bickerton, Ella Bannister, Diane Stonebraker, and
brothers James, Lewis and Craig. Phillip is survived by his wife of 75 years, Grace (Jack)
Krepps, daughter Karen Schmitt (David) and sons Phillips Krepps (Mila) and Paul Krepps
(Jennifer). He had six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Phillip was a loving husband, father and grandfather, an engineer and mechanical genius.
He was a true patriot, having served his country in two wars.
Phillip attended the Pennsylvania Nautical School and graduated in 1942 from the
United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. He served briefly in the merchant
marines before enlisting in the Navy where he served in the Atlantic and Pacific theatres during
World War II. He also served in the Navy during the Korean conflict and completed his service
for his country as a Lieutenant Commander.
Phillip was employed by United States Steel for 36 years in various steel plants, retiring
from National Works as the assistant superintendent of shops and utilities. After his retirement
from U.S. Steel, Phillip became the operations manager of the Pittsburgh Allegheny County
Thermal steam heating company and under his leadership the company resurrected the efficient
steam heating and air conditioning of many downtown Pittsburgh buildings.
Phillip was a Pennsylvania Licensed Professional Engineer. He was a lifelong Mason
and former member of many years of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenock and of St.
John's Lutheran Church of Highland in Allison Park.
Phillip was a skilled woodworker and mechanic. He was a supervisor and teacher of his
trades to many and was known to be able to fix almost anything. He was always there to help his
neighbors and his church. He enjoyed bowling and golfing for many years.
A private service for family only will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may
be made in Phillip's name to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children, one of many charities that
Phillip supported during his life.
Phillip's family echoes the wishes of his grandson Michael who also served in the Navy
during a time of war, wishing grandpa fair winds and following seas as he sets sail on his new
adventure. Arrangements by Simons Funeral Home. www.simonsfuneralhome.com
