Phillip "Jack" Jaque Malan, known affectionately to friends and family as Jack, passed away at the age of 80 on September 19, 2025, in
Columbus, Indiana. Born on August 20, 1945, in Seymour, Indiana, Jack lived a full life characterized by his dedication to his family, his work, and his community.
Jack's early life in Brown County was the foundation for his strong work ethic and resourceful nature. After joining the Navy, he honed his skills as an electrician, a trade that would define his professional life. Jack's mastery of electrical work was not just his career but his calling. He could repair anything, a talent that brought comfort and aid to many over the years. After his service, Jack continued to excel in his field, becoming a master electrician and taking pride in his role as a maintenance supervisor at several companies throughout his career.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jack's heart was always with his family. He is survived by his loving sons, Tim (Theresa) Malan and Clinton Malan; his cherished granddaughter, Jessica Malan; grandson, Cody Hobbs along with four more adored grandchildren. His siblings, Howard (Donna) Malan of North Vernon, Faye Bracher of Princeton, and Karen Streeval of Brown County, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews, will also hold his memory dear. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and ten brothers and sisters.
Mr. Malan's hands were rarely still, always busy with the next project, whether helping his family remodel homes or lending his expertise to family members in need. His presence was a constant source of reliability and support within his community. Jack's interests extended beyond his electrical work; he had a passion for nature, particularly hummingbirds and monarch butterflies. The joy these creatures brought to his life was evident to all who knew him.
Perhaps the most treasured times for Jack were those spent with his grandchildren. He looked forward to every moment with them, sharing stories, imparting wisdom, and creating lasting memories. His influence on their lives is an indelible legacy that will continue to guide them.
Jack was an interesting and handy man, words that only begin to describe the depth of his character. His life was a testament to the virtues of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of family. His absence will be profoundly felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, yet his spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched.
As we say goodbye to Phillip "Jack" Jaque Malan, we celebrate a life well-lived and well-loved. His story does not end with his passing but continues in the stories we share, the lessons he taught us, and the love he gave so freely. Jack's legacy is a beacon for all who strive to live with purpose and kindness. He will be greatly missed, but his light will never fade.
In keeping with the family's request, cremation will take place and a celebration of life gathering will take place at a later date.
