Philip Manderson, a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather Great Grandfather and Great Great Grandfather of Griffin, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the venerable age of 84. Born on September 4, 1941, in the small town of Sunny Side, Georgia, Philip was the embodiment of the values and virtues that define Southern hospitality and charm.
The son of the late Forrest Manderson and Alice Goolsby Manderson, Philip grew up with a strong foundation of family and faith, which he carried throughout his life. His devotion to his family was evident in every aspect of his being. Philip's heart was heavy with the loss of his beloved wife, Patsy Wilson Manderson, who was his partner in life and love.
Philip's career with Southern Railway spanned many years, during which he dedicated himself to his work with the same passion and commitment he gave to his family. His retirement years were filled with the simple pleasures he cherished most. An avid outdoorsman, Philip found solace and joy in the company of his dogs, with whom he ventured on long, contemplative walks. He was also an enthusiastic fisherman and hunter, activities that allowed him to immerse himself in the tranquility of nature.
Yet, above all, Philip's greatest delight was found in the laughter and stories shared with his cherished great-great grandson, Isaiah. The bond they forged was a testament to Philip's capacity for love and his ability to connect with all generations.
Philip's legacy lives on through his children, Phillip Manderson (Traci Ann), Lynn Michelle Gearin, and Scott Manderson. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren, a doting great-grandfather to fourteen great-grandchildren, and a cherished great-great-grandfather to six great-great-grandchildren. His brothers, Guy Manderson and Henry Manderson, along with several nieces and nephews, also survive him, each carrying a piece of Philip's kind and generous spirit.
A man of faith, Philip was a longstanding member of West Sunny Side Church, where his presence was a constant source of comfort and fellowship to the congregation.
The Manderson family will welcome friends and loved ones for a visitation on Monday, February 23, 2026, from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service will honor Philip's life at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, with memories shared and hymns sung in remembrance of a life well-lived. Philip will be laid to rest in Griffin Memorial Gardens, where he will be surrounded by the community he held dear.
Philip Manderson's life was a tapestry woven with threads of kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness. His was a life that touched many and will continue to be celebrated by those who were fortunate enough to know him. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we do so with the knowledge that his spirit will forever be a guiding light for his family, his friends, and the many lives he impacted.
