A time to be born: Phillip Jordan Montgomery was the first-born son to the late Betty Montgomery and late Travis Brown in Newark New Jersey on April 4 1964 at 10:10 am.

A time to learn: Phillip was educated in the public school system. He attended West Side High School in Newark NJ. He later earned his GED. After obtaining his GED he attended Upsala College. He also became a certified massage therapist.

A time to serve: Phillip served in the United States Army for 6 years. He received an honorable discharge from the service. Phillip then served his community as a correctional officer and later as a police officer for the Asbury Park Police department in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

A time to live: Jerz or Big Mont then relocated to Charlotte NC in the late 2000s where he became a self-made business owner and pillar in his community. He had his own style and was a great friend to many but also a very private person but was always willing to sacrifice and help others.

A time to play: Phillip loved to travel, designer shoes, music and smoke cigars but his true passion was fashion. He was about his own style whether it was holey jeans and a tee shirt with a cigar or custom-made suits, sunglasses and a smile, he made it all look good!

Phillip Jordan Montgomery, age 59 passed away unexpectantly at his home in Harrisburg, North Carolina on Saturday September 30 2023.  Along with his parents Phillip was preceded in death by his sister Dondy Montgomery.

Phillip is survived by his son: Daishawn Decosey of Orlando, Florida; Siblings: Two sisters Phillis Williams of Atlanta, Georgia, Latira McKay of Columbia, South Carolina, and one brother Rachon (Tracey) Montgomery of Charlotte, NC; Gloria Williams his aunt and confidante, Barbara Edwards "Aunt Bob"; Nephews: Quentin Montgomery Nieces: Sekina Montgomery, Al-Nina Montgomery and Justice (Ben) Graham; Great nieces and nephews: Isaiah Montgomery, Sha’Kora Miley, Tyler Williams, Avalah Montgomery and Lauren Cooper; Cousins: Winston (Vanessa) Wilson, Donna(Randy) Fant, and Rene Turay; Lifelong Devoted Friends: Dana (Silvia) Reeves, Connie King, Johari Barber, and Johnny Moore; God son: Von Smith and countless other family members and friends.

Phillip cared greatly about all of his nieces and nephews. With all his nieces and nephews, he had unique bonds and conversations. He was dedicated to ensuring that all his hard work and sacrifices paved the way for them to have a better future. There is a saying that Phillip used to say often to many people he encountered: "It is business never personal".  He spoke this saying prophetically when conversing with his nieces but it especially resonated with Justice and Al-Nina.  On behalf of Sekina, Al-Nina, Justice, and Quentin he made sure they knew "It is business never personal”. This philosophy of Phillip has helped make them all better people. He will truly be missed.
