Phillip Newman, age 74 of Bancroft, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Owosso. A funeral service to honor and celebrate his life will be held 12:00 PM on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Antrim Baptist Church, 4509 Lovejoy Rd., Byron, MI 48418. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment immediately following at Glass River Cemetery, Antrim Twp.
Born on November 17, 1950, in Byron, Michigan, Phillip was the cherished son of Basil and Muriel (Edward) Newman, and a loving brother to Ann and Carol. Raised in the tight-knit community of Byron, Phillip's early life was marked by the values of family and service. He graduated with the class of 1969 from Byron High School, an achievement he carried with pride throughout his life. His dedication to his country was evident when he served bravely in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge for his commitment and valor.
Upon returning home, Phillip's heart was captivated by Ruth Ann, and the two were united in marriage on March 23, 1973 in Corunna, Michigan. Their union was a testament to love and partnership, celebrating over 52 years filled with joy and companionship. Together, they raised a family of three wonderful children, Melissa, Brian, and Evan, who in turn blessed Phillip with the joy of being a grandfather and great-grandfather.
Phillip's work ethic shone brightly through his 49 years of dedicated service at Simplicity, where he was respected and admired by his colleagues. His commitment extended beyond his professional life as he was an active member of Antrim Baptist Church, where he lived out his faith with conviction and love.
His interests were vast, Phillip had a passion for hunting, and he found solace in the beauty of nature. Cars and motorcycles captivated his mechanical interests, with his Harley Davidson holding a special place in his heart. But above all, Phillip's greatest enjoyment was his family. He was their most enthusiastic supporter, whether cheering from the sidelines at sporting events or celebrating life's milestones. His presence was a source of strength and love for all who were lucky enough to know him.
Phillip's legacy is carried on by his adoring family: his devoted wife, Ruth Ann; his children, Melissa (Charlie) Leedle, Brian (Summer) Newman, and Evan (Cindy) Newman; his grandchildren, Payton Leedle, Paige Leedle, Chris Newman, Austin (Caitlin Bruce) Newman, and Jules Newman; his great-grandchildren, Eva and Eli Holmes; his sisters, Ann (Bill) Sleeseman and Carol (Gary) Sleeseman; and several cherished nieces and nephews. His loyal dog, Maggie, will miss his gentle touch and warm presence. Phillip was preceded in death by his loving parents, Basil and Muriel Newman.
