Phillip Howard Pender

Phillip H Pender 55 of Manchester died Monday July 10, 2023 doing what he loved, hiking in the Badlands National Park, SD. Born in Perth Amboy, he resided in Colonia for 11 years before moving to Manchester in 2006. He taught math for 30 years and 23 years for Freehold Twp HS before retiring in 2021. He played football for Lehigh University & for JP Stevens HS in Edison where they were a 2-time state champion. He coached football for Manchester Twp Pop Warner & AYF & Freehold Twp HS. He coached tennis for Freehold Twp HS and enjoyed going to Bey Lea Park to play pick-up tennis games. Phil wrestled in high school and coached Freehold Twp HS. He enjoyed video games like Nintendo and Clash of the Clans. He loved the outdoors and tended to his vegetable & tomato gardens, bird watching and taking care of his hummingbird feeders, visiting national state parks and riding his canvas raft at Island Beach State Park. He is predeceased by his father Norman B Pender. Surviving is his wife of 29 years, Juliet DeRosa Pender, mother, Judith Pender, children, Martha A Pender, Phillip H Pender Jr, Joseph N Pender, and Christina R Pender and Mother and Father in-law, Martha Signorile and Paul DeRosa. Visitation is Monday 4-8 PM at Oliverie Funeral Home 125 S. Cooks Bridge Rd Jackson. Funeral Liturgy is Tuesday 12 PM at St John's Church, Lakehurst with interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island.
