Phillip Craig Bailey, known affectionately as Phil to his friends and family, passed away on March 3, 2025, at the age of 72 in Six Mile, South Carolina. Born on February 5, 1953, in Greenville, South Carolina, Phil was a man of intelligence, love, and analytical prowess, whose presence enriched the lives of those around him.
Phil grew up in the heart of Greenville, where he was raised by his late parents, Felton B. Bailey and Mildred Atcheson Bailey. He shared his childhood with his brother, Jerome Keith Bailey, and was predeceased by his half-sister, Lilly Ruth Bailey. Phil's early life in Greenville laid the foundation for a lifetime of achievements and passions that would define his character.
A testament to his dedication and intelligence, Phil excelled academically, achieving an honor roll status with a 4.0 GPA at Greenville Technical College, where he earned his associate's degree. His academic success was paralleled by his musical talent, which shone brightly as he won the "battle of the bands" three times, becoming a state champion and leaving an indelible mark on the local music scene.
Phil's love for music, especially classic rock and the works of Rod Stewart, was a constant source of joy and inspiration in his life. He found solace in the melodies and rhythms that spoke to the core of who he was. His interests extended beyond music to the realms of politics and cinema. Phil was an avid listener of talk radio, engaging deeply with political discourse, and he could often be found enjoying the classic westerns of Bonanza, Gun Smoke, and films starring John Wayne.
Phil's analytical mind and loving nature were the pillars upon which he built his life and relationships. He was a beacon of wisdom and support for his son, Cody Winchester Bailey, who resides in Tomball, Texas. Phil's legacy as a father, brother, and friend is characterized by the profound impact he had on those he loved.
