Phon Hem May 28, 1943 ~ December 6, 2024 (age 81)
The world lost a beloved husband and father at the age of 81, on Friday, December 6, 2024 when he passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.
Phon was born on May 28, 1943 in Svay Rieng Province, Cambodia to the late Chhim Hem & Sum Keo of Svay Rieng Province, Cambodia. On May 17, 1973, he married his schoolmate The. He was a graduate of the Soryavong College's class of 1967 and later worked as an educator.
In 1983, he and his family settled in East Boston. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Salem State College and a certificate in bilingual K-6 teacher. He helped newly-arrived Cambodian immigrants to value their culture, language, and to assimilate them with their new home country by being a mentor and a bilingual teacher for the Revere Public School System, specifically the Beachmont School and the Garfield Magnet School until his retirement in 2001.
In his spare time, he cherished life with family and friends. His sweet and kind soul will be truly missed by the many lives, young and old, that he touched.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, his three sons, daughters in laws, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren: The, Sophana, Sophol, Sopheap(Kevin), Cheryl, Chermaine, Jessica, Neary and her family, Nathan, and Laila. He will be missed by his colleagues and extended families and friends in the United States and in Cambodia.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a public visitation on Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 8:00 a.m to 9:00am at Vertuccio Smith & Vazza Beechwood Home for Funerals at 262 Beach St.
Revere, MA. 02151. Cremation will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett, returning to Revere Buddhist temple for a ceremony thereafter.
