Phylis, wife of Harper Jay Simpson of 55 years, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2024. She was a woman of immense faith, whose life was a testament to her loving nature and entrepreneurial spirit. Born to the late Alan and Betty (Barclay) Davenport, Phylis carved a path of love and service that touched many hearts throughout her journey.
Phylis was a proud 1965 graduate of Beaver Falls High School. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to Geneva College, where she graduated in 1969, and later to the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, where she completed her education in 1980. Phylis's academic achievements were the foundation upon which she built a successful career, co-founding the Simpson Funeral Home in 1972. Her devotion to helping others in their time of need was evident in every aspect of her work as a funeral director.
In addition to her notable contributions in mortuary science, Phylis had a diverse career that included real estate, floral arranging, and serving at the Florida Health Department.
She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved son, Harper Jay Simpson II in 2007, her brother Lyden Davenport, and her brother-in-law Randy Estelle. Her legacy continues through her adoring family: daughters Heather (Rick) Labuda and Charity (Armstrong) Simpson Allioth; grandchildren Spencer Alceus, Amanda Labuda, Emmaline Allioth, Jordan Labuda, Nicholas Labuda, Jaylee Allioth, and Arthur Allioth; and great-granddaughters Arezabella Alceus and Navi Gardner. Her siblings David (Judy) Davenport, Lisa Estelle, and Robert (Diane) Davenport; and sister-in-law Theo Cavalier, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In all aspects of her life, Phylis served Christ and let her faith guide her. She loved serving others through her many volunteer roles including vacation Bible school, Girl Scouts, P T A, cheerleading sponsor, and band parents. She also served others through her many careers: funeral directing. real estate, floral arranging and the Florida Heath Department. Although we will miss her greatly, we know she is celebrating in Heaven.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visitation on Saturday, January 13th, from 11 am – 1 pm at SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca with a service being held at 1 pm with the Reverend Robert Saul, officiating. Private interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Freedom.
