Phyllis B. Baer

1941 - 2025

Phyllis B. (Kunkle) Baer, 84, of Washington Township, passed away Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025, in Quality Life Services-Apollo. Born Jan. 17, 1941, in Vandergrift, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Esther (Campbell) Kunkle. Phyllis was a 1959 graduate of Vandergrift High School and Duff's Business Institute in Pittsburgh. She was employed by Kiski Area School District as a librarian secretary for 15 years. Phyllis was a member of Apollo Free Methodist Church and did volunteer work as an aide at Allegheny Valley Surgical Department. She was an avid reader, especially of her Bible. Phyllis enjoyed shopping and socializing, liked talking to people, and most loved being with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter R. Baer, on September 9, 2015; and siblings, Doris Miller, Ora Mae Custer, and Lee Kunkle, Jr. Phyllis is survived by her children, Julie (Timothy) Blankenship of Allegheny Township, Walt Baer of Elizabeth, and Samuel (Denise) Baer of Elizabeth; grandchildren, Olivia, Hannah, Abigail, Walter, Isabelle, Colby, and Lindsay; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Madison, and Mila; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025, in CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo. Additional viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, with Pastor Erika Rabickow officiating. Private interment in Vandergrift Cemetery.
