Flanner Buchanan Funeral Center - Oaklawn Memorial GardensPhyllis Jean Bailey, age 91, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025. Born in Springfield, Ohio, to Stanley and Ruth Boyer (Tener), Phyllis grew up in Springfield and attended Enon High School, where she was active in many activities, including serving as a majorette in the marching band. She also participated in 4H where she developed a passion for vegetable gardening.
Phyllis dedicated many years of her career to Indiana National Bank, beginning as a teller and ultimately retiring from the Credit Rating Department. As a breast cancer survivor, she gave back to her community by volunteering with Reach to Recovery, offering support and hope to patients undergoing treatment for the same illness.
Family was the heart of Phyllis’s life. She cherished time spent with loved ones, especially during the holidays. Her passions included gardening, road trips regardless of the destination, dining out with friends and family, and caring for her beloved pets, three pugs, and her cat. She recently fulfilled a lifelong dream of riding in a hot air balloon.
Phyllis is survived by her children: Teresa Bailey of Fishers; Thomas Bailey, Jr. of Corning, NY; D. Mark Bailey (Kim) of Indianapolis; as well as eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Bailey, Sr; her daughter, Carolyn Vaught; son-in-law, Ron Vaught; grandson, Adam; and her parents.
A Gathering to Celebrate Phyllis’s life will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Flanner Buchanan – Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), 9700 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46250. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm, with an intimate graveside service for immediate family afterward.
