Philomena "Phyllis" Carmela "The Mom" Migliaccio Barrett, was called home on February 19, 2022, in Manchester, New Jersey. "The Mom" was born on July 16, 1935 in Hoboken, New Jersey to Andy Migliaccio, a tailor, accomplished musician and band leader of Andy and His Original Miami Ramblers. Her mother, Mildred, was a homemaker. After having to quit high school to care for her younger siblings after her father's death, Phyllis returned to school in her early 50s and attended classes at Ocean County College. She then went on to earn her bachelor's degree in Gerontology at Stockton College in 1992 at age 57, where she resided in the dormitory. While the other college "kids" were partying, Phyllis was studying hard to earn her degree and she proudly announced this at her graduation. Phyllis worked with several nursing home facilities where she fought hard for better care for the elderly. Phyllis was a faithful parishioner of St. Barnabas Church in Bayville. Known for her strength and fire, Phyllis is a true hero to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Phyllis was married to John Barrett, Sr., with whom she had 5 children and later on in life, Phyllis partnered with John J. Flocco, with whom she had 3 children. She is survived by her daughter Patricia and her husband Larry, her son Kevin and his wife Darlene, her sons Joseph and Gus and her daughter Susan and her husband Zakaria, her grandchildren Mary and her husband Mark, Melissa, Johnny and his wife Jenn, Lisa and her husband Timothy, Larry and Gabrielle and her great-grandchildren, TJ, Kaylee, Molly and Grace. Phyllis was preceded in death by her sons John, James and Mark and her daughters-in-law Betsy and Julie. A cancer and covid survivor, Phyllis defied all odds and amazed her doctors with her strong will to live and passion for life. Phyllis was known for her sass, warm heart, fierce spirit and beautiful smile.
