Naples – Mrs. Phyllis D. (Faas) Bittner, 94, passed away at her home on Saturday, June 21. She was the widow of Chester Leroy Bittner, Jr.
Phyllis was born to Julian Faas and Ruth Sanford Faas in San Bernardino, California. She was an only child and the only grandchild on both sides of the family. She was really loved. Phyllis went to high school in San Bernardino. While in high school she met Chester LeRoy Bittner. They went steady and went to the senior prom together. They became engaged in their senior year of high school. Phyllis and Chester were married on October 22, 1949. Not long after high school Phyllis and her mother, Ruth became Jehovah's Witnesses. Soon Chester joined in that dedication as well.
Phyllis has three children: Mark in 1951, Rebecca in 1955, and Jeffrey in 1963. Mark resides in Orange County California, Rebecca is married to Jeffrey Rothstein, MD. and Jeffrey is married to Adriana Volynsky. Phyllis has 6 grandchildren: Kyle Bitner of Naples, Brittney Bittner of Colorado, Brian Bittner, who is married to Daisy, and residing in Hong Kong; Christi DeMattia, who is married to Daniel DeMattia and residing in Orange County, California; Richard Newman who is married to Sara Fitzpatrick, and living here in Naples, Florida; and Jonathan Newman, who has pre deceased Phyllis. Phyllis has three great grandchildren: Emily DeMattia residing in York, England; Sophia and Clara DeMattia, residing in Orange County, California. Phyllis has two step grandchildren, here in Naples, Camille and Mila.
Phyllis was widowed in August of 2005. In 2012 Phyllis decided to leave California and move to Florida to join her son Jeffrey and his family. She wanted to be near him and to eventually live with him as she grew older. Phyllis adjusted to settling in Florida on her own. She loved attending bible studies. One of her highlights was being able to get out and visit with various friends such as sharing a meal. She was quite a card player as well. These things were her entertainment. She was so active and vibrant. She had a great sense of humor. The family would like to express their thanks for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. Phyllis was so faithful and dedicated to her creator Jehovah. Phyllis rests in sleep as we look forward to the day when we are reunited with her. She is already missed so much.
A memorial talk will be held on Saturday, July 12, at 3:00 P.M. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses 6755 Yarberry Lane Naples 34109.
