Phyllis Blue

1934-2025

Phyllis Blue, 90, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2025.

She was born September 6, 1934 in St. Joseph to Dillard and Thelma (George) Branson. She grew up in St. Joseph and graduated from Lafayette High School, where she was in marching band and the flag corps.

Phyllis married Richard Cleo Blue. He preceded her in death on January 28, 1985.

In her younger years, Phyllis worked at Chase Candy Co., Dugdale Packing, and St. Joseph Power and Light. After her children were grown, she worked at Gasper & Co. Accounting firm, then in the Buchanan County Recorder of Deeds office for more than 30 years and also worked at Gordon Jewelers.

Phyllis loved to cook and was known for her fried chicken and tacos. She also loved to have the family over to sit and talk, while enjoying her well-sugared coffee that she always wanted to share.

She was an avid reader of mysteries and Stephen King novels, sometimes reading a book a night. She was always up for a good garage sale, with a keen eye for antiques.

Phyllis was the sweetest person you'd ever meet. You couldn't find a nicer lady who lived a life of sacrifice and generosity to better the lives of others.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents; and siblings, Joy Crowley, Bonnie O'Connell, and Mickey Branson.

Survivors include her children, David Blue (Lee Ann), Dane Blue (Debbie), and Gynetta Jones; grandchildren, Alexa Blue, Lindsey Menschik, Jarod Blue, Kristen Blue, Jackson Jones, and Elaina Jones; great-grandchildren, Angelique Tatro and Draven Johnson; numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.

Farewell Services 1:00 P.M. Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Inurnment Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service. The family suggests memorial contributions to the St. Joseph Animal Shelter. Online guest book and obituary at www.meierhoffer.com.
