Phyllis Joyceline Bonner, passed away on Saturday October 25, 2025, at Montgomery Place. She was born on May 22, 1933, in Kanapolis, Kansas, to Ted and Ruth Griffith Duncan, who preceded her in death.
Phyllis led a life full of dedication and hard work, as the owner of PJ's Chicken in Dumas, Texas. In addition to running her restaurant, she contributed to her community in various ways, including her time as the deli manager at Food Town, working in construction, and managing the VFW in Independence. Her commitment to her family was evident in her relentless care and support for her daughter, Debra Linnebur, who also predeceased her.
Phyllis attended Thayer Schools, which laid the foundation for her various endeavors throughout her life. Her passion for her work did not overshadow her hobbies; she was an avid quilter and enjoyed sewing, as well as reading books. Phyllis was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion both in Independence Kansas.
Phyllis experienced love and loss throughout her life. She married Clarence Patterson in 1950 in Thayer, Kansas, they later divorced. She then found marriage to Butch Maples in 1968, which ended with his untimely passing in 1969. Phyllis married DM Bonner in 1971 in Miami, Oklahoma; this union, too, ended in divorce.
She is survived by her loving children: Paul and Kathy Patterson of Elk City, Kansas; Larry and Pat Patterson of Gulfport, Mississippi; Michael and Tara Patterson of Coffeyville, Kansas; and Cecil and Diana Patterson of Kerrville, Texas. Phyllis was the proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren and the cherished great-grandmother to 26 great-grandchildren, who will hold her memory dear.
