Phyllis Darlene Carlson (née Campion), born on May 18, 1932, in Niwot, Colorado, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, in Cedaredge, Colorado. She was 93 years old.
Phyllis led a remarkable life marked by intellectual curiosity, professional dedication, and a deep love for her family and community. Her career took her to great heights—both literally and figuratively—as she worked for the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado. Through her work in weather research, Phyllis traveled extensively around the globe, contributing to scientific understanding in a field that fascinated her deeply.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Phyllis found joy and fulfillment in many aspects of life. She was an avid golfer who enjoyed time on the green as much for the camaraderie as for the sport itself. Her hands were rarely idle; she spent countless hours cross-stitching intricate designs that became treasured keepsakes among those close to her. Music also played a special role in her life—she loved to sing and often lifted spirits with her voice.
Faith was a cornerstone of Phyllis’s life. A devoted member of the Presbyterian church, she found strength and community through worship and service.
Phyllis was preceded in death by two beloved husbands: Robert Sawyer and Ron Carlson. She is lovingly remembered by her three children, six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild—a legacy that spans five generations and reflects the enduring bonds she nurtured throughout her life.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her—in every song sung with joy, every stitch sewn with care, and every moment shared under open skies.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
