Phyllis Joy Clinebell passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, at Country Arch Nursing Home in Pittstown, New Jersey. She was 87 years old.
Phyllis was born on April 23, 1938, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to the late John G. Vence and Grace R. Vence (née Mauko).
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who lived a life grounded in faith, serving the Lord and others. She was fondly known by her grandchildren as, Mom-Mom. Phyllis loved music and was a talented singer and sang in her church choir. She also loved cooking and baking, often making lemon cupcakes, peanut butter pies, molasses cakes, and many other delicious treats for family and friends. Sewing was another favorite hobby in which Phyllis was very talented. She made doll clothes and dresses for her granddaughters when they were young, sewed quilts, crocheted afghans and sweaters, and embroidered. One of her greatest joys was making memories with her family, especially at Disney World. As a Disney Vacation Club member, she brought her family to Disney every year and even hosted two large family reunions. Above all Phyllis loved Jesus and dedicated her life to serving the Lord and sharing her love of Jesus with others. Her love for Jesus overflowed into others. She truly epitomized joyfulness and selflessness and always had a heart ready to give. Phyllis was the epitome of the Bible verse, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
Phyllis is survived by her beloved husband, James Clinebell, Sr.; her sons, Mark and his wife Eileen, James Jr. and his wife Ellen, and Rev. Andrew and his wife Kellie; her cherished grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob and his wife Caroline, Becky and her husband Blake Rader, Kevin and his wife Emily, Katie, Cody and his wife Hannah, and Caleb; and her great-grandchildren, Adelaide and William. She is also survived by her brother, Stephen Vence and his wife Barbara.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her siblings, John Vence, Richard Vence, Henry Vence, Grace Schulthies, Marlene Crampton, and Doris Kreis.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Phyllis’s memory to Friendship Community Church, 4321 Duhme Road, St. Petersburg, FL 33708.
