Phyllis A. Dean, 90, of Dubuque died Monday, September 1, 2025. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:15 Monday, September 8, at the Church of the Resurrection followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30. Inurnment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Phyllis was born October 11, 1934 in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Frank and Cecelia (Reis) Scannell. She was a graduate of the Visitation Academy.
On June 11, 1955 she married Raymond Dean at Sacred Heart Church, Dubuque. He preceded her in death on April 24, 2010.
After working at Dubuque Packing Company, Phyllis got her CNA certification and worked as a CNA for Luther Manor for 28 years before her retirement.
Her faith was very important to Phyllis. She was a long time member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, before recently moving to Resurrection Catholic Church. She daily watched Mass and prayed the Rosary.
Besides her faith, her family was everything to Phyllis. She loved spending time with her family and grilling out. She also enjoyed crocheting, having crocheted Afghans for her family.
She is survived by two children, Darin (Tina) Dean and Darcy Dean, both of Dubuque; Daughter in law, Pam Dean; grandchildren, Kelly Dean, Sondra Dean (Sam) Lampe, Devin (Sheena), Dillon (Emily), Drew and Derrick Dean and Breanna, Hannah, Brian and Brendon Ries.
She is also survived by a brother, Alan (Agnes) Scannell.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Kenneth, David and Duane; a daughter, Darla; a granddaughter, Heather; a grandson, Jayme; a brother and his wife, John and JoAnn; and a sister and her husband, Delores and Marty.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
The Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sunset Park Place, and the staff at Hospice of Dubuque, especially Sasha, Nicole and Ashley for all of their wonderful care.
