Phyllis Edelstein, born February 25, 1940, was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Phyllis touched the lives of everyone who knew her with her warmth, kindness and creativity. She was a remarkable person who lived life fully, leaving a lasting impact on those around her. An accomplished artist, Phyllis's work was celebrated and even displayed at The Art Institute of Chicago, a testament to her talent and dedication. Through her art, she captured beauty and emotion in ways that resonated deeply with others. Phyllis had a true spirit of adventure, traveling the world and embracing different cultures. She spent time living on a kibbutz in Israel, an experience that enriched her life and shaped her world view. Later in life, she became a mentor, dedicating herself to teaching English to non-English-speaking individuals, helping them navigate new challenges with patience and compassion. To her niece, who affectionately called her "Aunt Phyllie", she was more than family - she was a cherished mentor and friend. Together, they spent countless afternoons lying on the grass, looking up at the clouds and finding images within them. This small act of wonder became one of her niece's most treasured memories and a lasting gift. Even now, whenever her niece looks up at the sky and sees shapes in the clouds, she feels Phyllie's presence. Phyllis was also an avid reader and film lover, bringing her passion for stories and ideas to both her book and movie clubs, where she delighted in sharing her insights with friends. Her life was a beautif ul testament to creativity, compassion and connection. Phyllis's legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched, inspiring them to embrace life with open hearts. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered. Graveside funeral services will be held Friday November 29th at 12 Noon at Westlawn Cemetery (Eastlake Section), 7801 W. Montrose., Norridge. Family and friends who can't attend the funeral can watch it on Phyllis's webpage on www.mitzvahfunerals.com live, or any time after the funeral. Phyllis and I became friends in kibbutz Sdot Yam in 1969 and remained in contact until my phone calls and letters went unanswered.
We traveled all over Israel and visited each other in Amsterdam, Chicago and California. We had a lot of fun and I have only good memories of Phyllis.
Rest in Peace my dear friend,
