Phyllis L. Ely

Phyllis L. Harold Ely, 83, departed this life on Saturday, August 27, 2022, in Voorhees, NJ. She was born on October 17, 1938, the sixth of seven children born to the late Sylvester and Josephine Tyler Harold.
She graduated in 1957 from James Weldon Johnson High School in Yorktown, VA. She was married to her beloved late husband Robert Ely.
Phyllis was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord. She worked for Pennsauken Board of Transportation as a Bus Aid for over twenty years. She was also a block captain for her neighborhood watch. Besides spending time with her family and friends, Phyllis enjoyed gardening and traveling. She was a mom to whoever needed it with her caring, funny and sociable personality. She touched many lives with her generosity and passion for life.
Phyllis was preceded in death by two brothers, Sylvester Harold Jr and Rudolph Harold; and two sisters, Shirley Mae Goodwin (Johnnie) and Myrtle Simmons (Myron).
She leaves to cherish and treasure her blessed memories her children, Glen Carter (Johnella), Robin Odems, Deborah Eley (Blaine), Michael Carter (Lynnette), Lavonne Coleman, and Christopher Carter (Evelyn); a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Harold (Linda) and DeSteffinoa Goodwin (Thais); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives, and caring friends.
A funeral service celebrating the life she lived will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, with Dr. Ronald A. Ellis officiating. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Ely may be viewed from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday in the church.
