Phyllis Evans, was born March 5th, 1960 to the late Willie B. and Bettie L. Evans. Surrounded by family during her last days, Phyllis went home to be with the Lord on August 16th, 2025.
Phyllis grew up in a loving household in Long Branch, NJ, alongside her 7 siblings whom she adored. Her mother, Bettie Evans, ensured all her children had the best childhood. Phyllis grew up in a close relationship with her brothers and sisters, playing jacks and getting ice cream at the local boardwalk. Long Branch gave Phyllis some of her best teenage memories, she was a pretty young thing, with a big personality and always the life of the party. Phyllis later moved to Asbury Park, NJ, where she spent a majority of her adult life. She raised her kids, met lifelong friends, and started going to church all in Asbury Park.
From an early age Phyllis was known for her humor. If you were in the same room with her, she was guaranteed to make you laugh. From friends and family, to doctors and nurses, everyone always spoke about how funny she was. She was also known for speaking her mind; as many would describe her as fiesty or sassy, but to her family and friends, that was just Phyllis. She truly left an impact on everyone she met.
Phyllis was well known in the community, especially from her job at McDonalds, where she was considered the "Drive-Thru Queen". She worked there for several years, leaving her mark on many people along the way. In 2012, Phyllis began going to Triumphant Life Church where she was saved and baptized in 2013. Although her health stopped her from attending regularly, Triumphant Life always had a special place in her heart.
Phyllis loved to spend time with her family and friends, and most importantly she loved being a grandma to 3 beautiful girls. She enjoyed a good meal, and loved going out to restaurants. Phyllis was smart, with a love for crime shows and horror movies, and before the ending, she was always able to guess who did it. She was truly one of a kind.
She was predeceased by her brothers Willie Evans Jr., Donald Evans and Winslow Evans, sister, Dolores Evans Brown, and her brother in law, Nathaniel Jones. Phyllis leaves to cherish her memory her children, whom she absolutely loved, April Evans and Kevin Gilliard; her sisters, Shirley Evans, Willene Jones, and Bettina Evans, her sister-in-laws, Teshara Evans and Pam Evans, her brother, Steward Odyssey Mills, her grandchildren, Paris, Passion, and Peyton Gilliard, her best friends who she could always depend on Big Kev Gilliard and Beverly Wilson; her special niece, Candy (her favorite); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.
