Phyllis Glenn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crowder Funeral Home - Pearland on Jan. 21, 2026.
Phyllis Lucy Glenn passed away peacefully on January 13th after an extended hospital stay. She was born on March 22nd , 1948, to Margaret (Maher) and Philip H Nelson Sr. in Oswego New York, the second of seven children the couple would have. She spent her childhood on the shores of Lake Ontario and graduated from Oswego High School in 1965, a year early. From there she started a career in secretarial work that would span several different industries from insurance to tea, aerospace technology to banking and even education. A sense of curiosity and adventure would bring her to the gulf coast in the mid 1970s, two of her brothers, Rob and Tom, following shortly behind.

In the early 80s she met and married Jim Glenn, became a stepmom to Jim's son Danny, and a few short years later, their daughter Elizabeth was born. They made their home on Travis Court, a small dead-end street in La Marque, Texas where lifelong bonds of friendship would be formed with neighbors who became family. Phyllis took great pride and found delight in her part in raising not only Danny and Liz but also loving the neighbor kids like they were her own. Many a birthday party, Halloween, or other holiday was celebrated surrounded by friends and family in that home. After divorcing Jim, Phyll and Liz moved back to her hometown of Oswego, where Liz would graduate from the same high school Phyll did, nearly forty years later. Years later Phyll would make her way back to Texas to be with her grandsons, eventually landing in Friendswood, Texas, where she lived until her passing.

Phyll could usually be found reading and researching various topics on health and the human condition, painting with oil paints, playing bingo or going on trips to the casino with the senior group from Baytown. She would go to dances and on trips out to eat with the friends that she made there. She was a devoted mother, grandmother (Granna), sister, aunt, daughter and friend. She even became a surrogate mom to most of Liz and Randy's friends. She was an avid storyteller, and it didn't matter if you had heard that same story a million times before, it was about to be a million and one. She had a strong desire to help people and wanted to take care of everyone. She even had a notorious list of friends and family she planned on helping when she finally hit that lotto jackpot.

Her greatest pride and joy in life were her grandsons, Hayden and Ethan. Her love of art was passed down to Hayden, who loves to paint and create like his grandmother. Ethan inherited her love of music, playing the trombone in band and he has a keen ear for rhythm and a good beat. She cherished her time with them, spoiled them endlessly and loved them to the moon and back.

She is preceded in death by her three brothers, Rob, Tom and Philip Nelson, her brothers in law, Jack Zeller and John Turner, and her nephew little Phil.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Randy) Lorfing, her stepson Danny (Leah) Glenn, her sisters, Mary Turner, Marge Zeller and Cris (Jerry) Samons, sisters in law, Vicki Nelson and Paula Nelson her grandsons, Hayden and Ethan Lorfing and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A memorial service for Phyll will be held on January 31st at 3pm at the Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland, 2422 E Broadway St. Pearland, Texas 77581. For out of state family and friends the service will be live streamed. After the service, there will be a gathering and dinner at Liz and Randy's home.
