Phyllis J. (Kubit) Grumney of Aurora passed away Sunday, February 1, 2026, at age 87. She was born in
Cleveland, Ohio to the late Theodore and Stella (Futera) Kubit. She is also preceded in death by her beloved husband Arthur O. Grumney and her brother Donald E. Kubit. Phyllis is survived by her loving daughter Susan (James) Stephan of Minneapolis; two cherished grandchildren, Hannah and Mara Stephan; a sister-in-law Mary Alice Kubit; and her dear friend Philip Potter.
Phyllis graduated from Denison University in Granville, Ohio with a bachelor's degree in English. She spent most of her career in education as an English and Creative Writing teacher at Hathaway Brown School for 32 years.
Active in theater in college and a member of The Signet Players at the Hanna Theater in Cleveland in the 1960s, Phyllis continued acting in many productions with the Solon Community Theater and the Aurora Community Theatre. Some of her favorite roles were Anna in the King and I, Marian in Music Man, Grace in Annie, Morgan Le Fay in Camelot, and the leader of the gang in 70 Girls, 70.
A member of The Church In Aurora, Phyllis sang in the church choir for more than 40 years, which was one of her greatest joys. She also served in leadership roles in the church Study Club and the Women's Guild.
Phyllis always had a smile on her face and a desire to take care of everyone around her. She will be truly missed by all whose lives she touched and made brighter.
