Phyllis Harris Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hawthorn Funeral Home - Carthage on Mar. 10, 2026.
A memorial service will be held for Ms. Phyllis Anne Harris, age 78, of Carthage, Texas, on Saturday, March 14, 2026, 2:00 pm at Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel. A time of fellowship will be held immediately following.

Ms. Phyllis Anne Harris went home to be with her Heavenly Father on March 4, 2026, in Tyler, TX. She was born September 26, 1947, in Miami, FL to the marriage of Ruth Anne Kranz and Paul Hancel Harris. As the daughter of a career military officer, the family was subjected to many relocations. She began her education in Michigan, continued it in Marshall, TX and began high school in Carthage, graduating with the class of 1966. After high school she went on to graduate from Panola College and the University of Texas at Tyler where she graduated magna cum laude with an accounting degree. Throughout her career, she worked as a legal secretary, as an office administrator in the field of real estate development, and in the banking industry for more than thirty-five years, having retired from First State Bank &Trust Co in 2017, following a stroke.

Her favorite activities included babysitting her grandchildren, spoiling her cats, working with the Boys and Girls Club, assisting pet owners in spaying and neutering their pets, watching Flashpoint, Victory News, other conservative Christian news, and listening to praise and worship music.

She was of the Full Gospel faith and had been a member of the River of Life Worship Center for many years where she had served as pianist and a Sunday school teacher. In her later years, due to physical disabilities, she enjoyed worshipping at home through the ministries of David Jeremiah, Jeff Shreve, James McMenis, John Hagee, and others. She also enjoyed being a prayer warrior with Crosspoint Church in Carthage.

Ms. Harris is survived by her three sons; Todd Malone and wife Stacie, Trevor Malone, and Trent Malone and wife Ashley, all of Carthage; grandchildren Kason Malone, Logan Anne Malone, Cheston Malone, Peyton Malone, Avery Malone, Whitton Malone, Lyla Thames, and special relationship with Shelby Eskandane and husband Ramtin; great grandson Grayson Malone; sister Cathy Sibley , brother Billy Harris and wife Gina; special cousins Bue Harris, Reba Allison, and Buddy Harris and wife Judith; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Phyillis was preceded in death by her parents, sister Nancy Williams, special aunt Geneva Harris, and very special grandmother Allie Bue Harris.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Samaritan's Purse, Life Outreach International, or your favorite no-kill animal shelter.

Phyllis was my dear friend, even though we lived miles apart, we stayed in touch with text and short phone calls. She was a mighty prayer of warrior for me and my family. I will cherish our friendship forever in my heart. I know she was very proud of her three sons and all her family. Thank you, Phyllis for being so supportive and sharing your faith! I know you are rejoicing with our Heavenly Father and Savior love Kris
