Phyllis Heath, age 73, died peacefully at her home in Ormond Beach, Florida with her husband by her side on April 11, 2024, following a courageous, four-year battle with a rare type of blood cancer.
Known by her friends as a humble, kind, and caring person, she held her Christian faith deeply, and believed strongly in accepting all people. Phyllis always said that the Bible verse which became her life's mission was the King James Version of Jude 22, which reads "Of some have compassion, making a difference."
Phyllis was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but her family relocated to Florida when she was a toddler. She graduated from Boone High School in Orlando and earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Middle Tennessee State University and a Master of Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Kentucky.
Hers was a long and successful career in the helping professions, winning various local, state, and national awards for her exemplary service. She retired as District Administrator for the Florida Department of Blind Services.
As a devoted pastor's wife, she involved herself in various church activities and especially loved singing, both in the choir and as a soloist. Following their retirement, she became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Daytona Beach.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband, best friend, and teammate, Rev. Steve Heath; her daughter, Kathleen Walsh; her granddaughter, Evelyn Walsh; her sister, Virginia Douglass; and her dog, Bonnie. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Amanda Bolin.
A celebration of Phyllis's life will be held at Seabreeze United Church of Christ, 501 North Wild Olive Avenue in Daytona Beach on Wednesday, May 8 at 11:00 a.m. A lifelong dog lover, she desired that those who wish should make gifts in her memory to the Halifax Humane Society, 2364 LPGA Blvd, Daytona Beach, FL 32124.

I so remember Phyllis when she was my coworker. She was so full of compassion and had the heart of gold. She was hard worker and never stopped to take her breaks as she was devoted to helping disabled high school students get jobs or further their education. All of her students and parents spoke highly of Phyllis. She was a true warrior with her faith even when she was going through many battles of life's trials and tribulations. I pray for Steve during this difficult time and her family. I loved Phyllis so much. You are now with Mandy in heaven celebrating your reunion.

I remember when Ms. Phyllis had placed an item in our shredding 96-gallon container and needed to retrieve it. Now, the container was almost as tall as she was, and it had just been emptied by the company. Our mission being to have me open the container and lay it onto the ground and she was going to crawl inside to retrieve what she needed from the bottom. I really wish I would have taken a picture of this plan in action, but we were laughing so hard we did not. We laughed many times about this and how it might have looked if someone would have walked in and her inside this container.

Ms. Phyllis was one of the kindest people I have ever had the pleasure to work with. She always put everyone ahead of her in everything. Her belief and faith in the Lord lead her each and every day.

Sending my deepest condolences to her family and friends. You were a true friend and loving person. Rest in peace my friend.
