Phyllis T. Height, the second child and only daughter, was born to Thelma
Talley Height and David Russell Height Jr. on March 4, 1945. Phyllis was
educated in the Philadelphia Public School System and graduated from
John Bartram High School.
Phyllis was employed in various jobs. She eventually began employment as
a Senior Nursing Assistant at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She
retired in 2006 after having assisted in the care of children for thirty-nine
and a half years.
Phyllis met Arthur Brown, and they were married at a relative's home in
1966. From that time to this, they have remained inseparable, parenting
their three children and caring for their extended family.
Phyllis's parents took her to church as a young child, where she learned
about the Lord and developed a genuine love for Him. In 2006, Phyllis
began attending the Mt. Moriah Apostolic Church, where she was baptized
in Jesus Name and received the Holy Ghost. She became a faithful member
and served as the Sunday School teacher for the Me-Too children's class,
was a member of the Saints of Wisdom Ministry (SOWs) and the Youth
Ministry's Hype Praiser. She referred to the youth and everyone she was
endeared to as her babies.
Phyllis loved everything about Mt. Moriah from Sunday School to Monday
Night prayer to Bible Study to Sunday worship service. Phyllis loved to
praise the Lord, and she looked forward to Sunday's breakfast with the
cheese eggs that only Sis. Delores would prepare perfectly for her liking.
Phyllis was genuinely loved by her family, friends, and church family. She
had a generous heart and loved to give and bless others. She always had a
card with something in it to celebrate everyone's special moments. She
especially enjoyed having her family around her and sponsored and cooked
for family barbecues for many years. Phyllis was also a diehard Eagles fan
and watched all their games. She also liked to watch television. Family
Feud, soap operas, the sci-fi channel and old school TV were her main go to.
Phyllis also loved to do crossword puzzles and had her snacks with her
during her leisure time.
Phyllis T. Height fought a good fight and finished her course on Friday,
June 13, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thelma and
Richard Height Jr.; her brothers, David Height and Bryant Height; and her
great-grandson, Jahseir Green. Phyllis leaves to cherish her memory;
Arthur Brown, her husband of 59 years; three children, Lisa Brown (Kevin),
Richard Height, and Phyllis Brown (James); twelve grandchildren, Michelle
(Darvin), Michael, Kisha (Andre), Aisha, Jasmine, Malik, Tamara, Richard,
Rashann (Susan), Amber, Sharif, and Shemar; twenty-nine
great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; Doretha Hyman, her
friend of 58+ years; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; her cat, Oreo;
her neighbors on the 2000 block of Aldan Street; her Mt. Moriah Apostolic
Church family; and many others too numerous to name but well loved by
Phyllis.
Lovingly Submitted,
The Family
