Phyllis Huston Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home - Warwick on Jan. 29, 2026.
Phyllis May (Sodergren) Huston, 97, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026. She was the loving wife of the late F. Craig Huston. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Walter W. and Letha M. (Nelson) Sodergren.

She was predeceased by her brother Walter W. Sodergren, Jr.

Phyllis was a graduate of U.R.I. class of 1949. She worked as a service coordinator for N.E. Telephone from 1950-1961, and at the U.S. Foreign Service Representative from 1962-1967. After that she was the owner of The Candle Snuffer Antiques and Lamp Shop in Coventry.

Phyllis was just so classy! Gracious, generous, intelligent, loyal, and fearless, she leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, and support for causes great and small. She cared passionately about so many things - the world and national affairs, the environment, wildlife and not-so-wild life, and especially, her family and friends.

Phyllis had a wonderful gift for friendship. She made friends with, and remembered, everyone she encountered because of her sincere interest in their lives. Her home was a central gathering place for neighbors, old friends and the children of old friends, and she loved the lively laughter and conversation that always ensued. One of her best friends, and constant companion, was her beloved kitty, Suzy, who woke her every morning with a gentle pat on the face.

Her interests covered everything from the well-being of stray cats in her neighborhood, to what was happening globally. A former tennis player, she enjoyed watching all the major tournaments. A world traveler as part of her US State Department career, and beyond with the love of her life, Craig, she had amazing tales to tell, remembering every detail of the places she went and people she met.

Phyllis will be remembered and missed by all those she encountered in her long and lovingly lived life.
