Phyllis Evelyn Janglee (Gower), cherished mother, grandmother, and friend to many, passed away peacefully in New Jersey on November 6, 2024. Born on April 10th, 1939, in Fyzabad, Trinidad, to Molly Rajdai Boxie and Ethelbert "Popo" Gower, Phyllis was known for her unique tradition of celebrating two birthdays - her actual birth date (April 10th) and her "official" birthday (April 20th).
In 1972, Phyllis embarked on a new chapter of her life when she immigrated to New York, where she welcomed her son Anthony in 1974. She found enduring love with Dan Sookdeo Janglee, sharing a beautiful marriage until his passing in 2009. After many years in Queens, NY, she relocated to New Jersey to be closer to Anthony and his family.
Phyllis built a successful career, beginning as a legal secretary in Trinidad before transitioning to the logistics industry in New York. She worked as an Import/Export clerk at various companies, concluding her professional journey at Kuehne and Nagel, where she retired a decade ago.
She leaves behind a loving family who will deeply miss her presence: her son Anthony, daughter-in-law Allie, and her beloved granddaughters Alyssa Giselle and Amelia Camille Janglee. She held a special place in her heart for her niece Tami Nelson.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her siblings Christiana Belling, Adriana Julien, and Clifford Gower. She is survived by Gloria Nelson, Shirley Bruce, and Winston Gay. Her extended family includes over 50 nieces and nephews, along with their children. She also leaves behind her dear cousins Joan, Stephanie, and Eulalie and their families.
Her marriage to Dan brought her into a large and loving extended family, including in-laws Rosana and Kewi (Khamchand) Janglee, Meena and Zeeyad Rahim, Molly and Tapay Janglee, and numerous others among Dan's 10 siblings and their families.
Phyllis touched countless lives through her friendships and family connections. While too numerous to name individually, each person held a special place in her heart. Her warmth, love, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

I found out today that my dear friend Phyllis passed away. I tried sending condolences today but I'm not sure if it was submitted.I commuted with Phyllis in Jersey City over ten years ago and our friendship continued after we both left the company. Today and everyday I send her messages and blessings on whatsapp. I had no way of knowing she had left us but I knew she was ill. On Nov 4th was the last time I heard from her. I started checking the NJ obituaries but did not see a post. Today I decided to check and sadly there was one. What a wonderful human being. We were like sisters. I miss her very much. Even though I was hospitalized for 2 months we kept in touch even though I can hardly text or talk. I was discharged in September. I'm still not well but God's willing I hope I will make it. She loved her family and always shared pics with me. May the good Lord keep her safe in His arms. My sincere condolences to all. Love always. A tree will be planted.

I first met Phyllis at her PT appointment and we became fast friends. She endeared herself to me & we corresponded almost daily. When I had not heard from her for over a week, we drove down to see her. I was so sorry to learn she had passed from her neighbor. She will be sorely missed. We send our deepest sympathy and Absolute Physical Therapy also extend their deepest condolences. Phyllis´ warmth, love and very generous spirit was felt by all who knew her. She was a very special lady!
