Phyllis Joann Kern, 86, of Vandalia, IL passed away Sunday, August 10, 2025 at her home in Vandalia, IL. She was born April 19, 1939 in Brownstown, IL, the daughter of Virgil and Alberta (Hug) Craig. She married Merle Edward Kern on May 23, 1959 in Brownstown, IL. She is survived by her husband, Merle Kern of Vandalia, IL; children, Kevin (Cathy) Kern of Vandalia, IL, Carla (Brett) Finley of Springfield, IL, and Brian (Beth) Kern of Vandalia, IL; sister, Joyce Garrison; several nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Craig (Dana) Kern, Kayla (Ryan) Ochs, Eric (Cecilia) Finley, Chris (Angie) Finley, Molly (Dawson) Reeter, and Megan Kern (Cody Pedigo); great grandchildren, Hank, Halle, Owen, Corben, Collin, Giselle, Mia, Emersyn, Maddox, Aria, Rhett, and Ellie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Alberta; brother, Kenneth; and brother-in-law, Ervin Garrison. Funeral services for Phyllis will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, IL with Pastor Joe Lawson officiating. Burial will follow at Taylor Cemetery, Rural Vandalia, IL. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Taylor Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL, is in charge of arrangements. Online memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.millerfh.net.
