Phyllis Korkowski, of Minnetonka, MN, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024. She was in the arms of loved ones as she passed away at the lake home in Alexandria, MN. She was born on March 9, 1942, to Roger and Theresa Culhane along with older sister Geraldine and younger brother Roger.
After graduating from Johnson High School in St Paul in 1960, Phyllis pursued a career as an LPN, where she touched the lives of many with her compassionate care.
Phyllis married Robert Korkowski six months after meeting in December of 1962. In the first six years of their marriage, they suffered a tragic stillborn loss quickly followed by the births of Susan, Timothy, and Karen. Phyllis and Bob packed up their family and moved to LaCrosse Wisconsin where their family of six became complete with the birth of their youngest, Beth. Phyllis often commented that the years they spent in LaCrosse were some of the happiest of her life.
Phyllis gladly gave up her nursing career to raise her family.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, always putting her family first. She was known for her sense of humor and there was a rumor of a joke book that never made it past page one. Raising four children, the home was always neat and tidy. Breakfasts were cooked to order. However, she gladly gave up cooking duties to Bob in her later years. Thankfully, she leaves behind recipes for her cheesy potatoes, hamburger gravy, and her refrigerator pickles.
She loved to travel and spent the past 35 years going to the same spot in Ixtapa, Mexico with dear friends. This trip was always a highlight and something to look forward to for Phyllis. But any road trip would do as she loved her “car rides”.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert; her children Susan (Marco), Tim (Jo), Karen, and Beth (Matthew); her grandchildren Andrew (Christine), Daniel (Lauren), Alessandro, Robert, Thomas, Joely and Ethan and great-grandchildren Cameron and Eleanor.
She was preceded in death by her parents Roger and Theresa Culhane and her sister Geraldine.
Phyllis leaves a legacy of love and laughter. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.
To honor Phyllis’ life a a Visitation will be held at 10:30 AM, followed by a Mass at 11:30 AM on October 30, 2024, at St. Therese of Deephaven, 18325 Minnetonka Blvd, Wayzata, MN 55391. After the Mass, there will be a funeral reception luncheon at Edina Country Club, 5100 Wooddale Ave, Edina, MN 55424.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Phyllis' memory may be made to Sharing and Caring Hands of Minneapolis.
