Phyllis Laxton Obituary
She was born in Oneida, Tennessee, and grew up in the Cumberland Gap. She always remembered her roots, passing on her knowledge of Appalachian lore and music to her children and many grandchildren.
As a teenager, she moved to Oregon, followed by her high school sweetheart, John-her husband of 73 years-who kept his promise never to leave her. She is survived by her husband, John Laxton; her children, Larry Laxton (Cindy), Judy Swanson (Chris), and Mark Laxton (Tina); as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Phyllis approached her roles as mother, homemaker, and grandmother with passion. There was always a home-cooked meal on the table at 4:30, homemade clothes to wear, and a poem she would write for every special occasion.
She had the same passion for her Christian faith, her church, and her ministries, including teaching second-grade Sunday School for 47 years.
A memorial service for Phyllis was held at Dishman Baptist Church on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM.

To the entire Laxton family: It is with great sadness that I read about Phyllis passing. I just read the obituary online today and discovered that the service for her is at 2 PM (today). I wish that I had known sooner. There is not enough time left for me to get to Dishman. I would love to see each of you and give you a big hug. Your entire family holds a special place in my heart. I love you all!
